Who the firm is

Drewett Works is a Scottsdale architecture firm led by C.P. Drewett, launched in 2001. A large share of its portfolio sits in the Sonoran Desert. The work is contemporary, often described as a modernist derivation of pueblo architecture, designed to sit with the landscape.

Design signatures a buyer should recognize

Modernist desert lines. Clean horizontal massing and flat or low rooflines rather than tile and arches.

Masonry and warm wood. Heavy masonry walls counterbalanced by warm interiors, often Douglas fir ceilings and walnut cabinetry.

Site integration. Homes nestled to hug existing boulders and native specimens, with the desert left as intact as possible.

Indoor-outdoor continuity. Large glass, deep overhangs, and courtyards that pull the desert into the plan.

Sculptural restraint. The house reads as a single composed object, what the firm calls a piece of sculpture, rather than a collection of wings.

Material honesty. Concrete, stone, steel, and wood expressed as themselves rather than clad or disguised.

How to verify, maintain, and find these homes

How to verify attribution. Confirm a Drewett Works home the same way as any attribution: the stamped plans in the Town permit file, the ARMLS architect field, and the firm's published portfolio. Contemporary desert homes are often copied in style, so an unsourced claim of a Drewett design should be treated as unconfirmed.

What these homes typically require. Flat and low-slope contemporary roofs use membrane systems that need scheduled inspection and resealing, especially around the large glass and deep overhangs these homes favor. Expansive glazing raises cooling loads and glass-replacement costs. Masonry and concrete age well but need sealing. Insure to replacement cost on the glass and custom millwork.

How to find current inventory. Contemporary homes by named architects turn over quietly. For current listings that may include Drewett Works homes, use my Paradise Valley search.

Questions buyers ask me

Short answers to the questions I hear most. Each one is covered in more depth above.

Contemporary desert modern: clean horizontal lines, heavy masonry warmed by wood, and a house that hugs the site rather than dominating it.

Stamped plans in the Town permit file, the ARMLS architect field, and the firm's portfolio. Style alone is not proof.

The large glass raises cooling loads. Good shading and glazing specs manage it, but budget for it.

Recent Paradise Valley closes ran $10 million to $13.75 million, around 6,800 to 9,100 square feet.

Recent closes paired Drewett with builders including BedBrock Developers and Brimley Development.
